USD # 247 BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING – April 12, 2010
A regular meeting of the USD #247 Board of Education
was called to order by President
(1) Jerry Alexander moved to approve the agenda as presented. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(2) Tara Underwood
moved to approve the minutes of the March 8, 2010 meeting. LaDonna Hartman seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(3) Greg Hite moved to approve the bills totaling $175,557.52. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Inclement (4)
Greg Hite moved to forgive the inclement weather days and pay all staff. Joe Ulery
Weather seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Jerry Alexander moved to go into Executive Session to discuss non-elected
personnel for thirty minutes to reconvene at 8:15 pm. LaDonna Hartman seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
President Ritchey called the meeting back to order.
(6) Greg Hite moved
to go into Executive Session to discuss non-elected personnel for thirty
minutes to reconvene at 8:50 pm. Tara
Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

discuss non-elected personnel for thirty minutes to reconvene at 9:30 pm. Jerry Alexander seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

to discuss non-elected personnel for thirty minutes to reconvene at 10:10 pm. Greg Hite seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

B. Cooper (10)
Per the administration’s recommendation, Tara Underwood moved to accept the
Retirement
resignation/retirement of Becky Cooper effective with the end of the 2009-10
school year. The board would like to
thank Mrs. Cooper for her years of service and they wish her well. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
M. Horgan (11)
Per the administration’s recommendation, Greg Hite moved to accept the
Retirement resignation/retirement
of Mary Ann Horgan effective with the end of the 2009-10 school year. The board would like to thank Mrs. Horgan for
her forty five years of service and they wish her well. Jerry Alexander seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Ulery (12) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Joe Ulery moved to accept the
Retirement resignation/retirement
of Shirley Ulery. The board would like to thank her for driving
a school bus for over forty years. Tara
Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Burdette (13) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Greg Hite moved to accept the
Resign Cheer resignation
of Kristine Burdette as high school cheerleading sponsor for the 2010-11 school
year. Joe Ulery seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Proctor (14) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Mindy Dainty moved to accept the Resign AGBB resignation of Carla Proctor as high
school assistant girls basketball coach for the
2010-11 school
year. Greg Hite seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Coots (15) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Keith Ritchey moved to accept the Resign ABBB resignation of Bradley Coots as high
school assistant boys basketball coach for the
2010-11 school

year. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Webster (19) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Jerry Alexander moved to hire
Head CC Nikki
Webster as head high school girl’s basketball coach for the 2010-11 school
year. Tara Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
L. Witt The
administration recommended to hire Luke Witt as head high school boy’s
basketball coach. The recommendation
failed due to lack of a motion.

White (20) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Jerry Alexander moved to hire
Asst. VB Maya
White as assistant high school volleyball coach for the 2010-11 school
year. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Rider (21) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Tara Underwood moved to hire
Asst. FB Clinton Rider as assistant high school
football coach for the 2010-11 school year.

Turner (22) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Jerry Alexander moved to hire
Asst. FB Quentin Turner as assistant high
school football coach for the 2010-11 school year. Keith Ritchey seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

Renfro (24) Per the
administration’s recommendation, Greg Hite moved to hire
Asst.
JHTRK Nicholas Renfro as assistant
junior high track coach for the 2010-11 school year. Tara Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
1.
Under Weir traffic flow.
Under discussion items, the traffic flow
at Weir Elementary was reviewed and for the remaining year and next year.
Mr. Turnbull will have the janitor put out red cones in the bus zone after
the busses leave in the morning and afternoon, in order to control traffic flow
through the lot and provide safety for students when loading and unloading. The
district will look at other alternative solutions over the summer.
2. Under district configuration:
Tara Underwood presented facts, figures and benefits
of a consolidated 6th, 7th and 8th grade. No action was taken and
the district is still moving ahead with using the services of Dr. Howard Smith
on assessing the entire district. Dr. Smith will be at the next meeting to
present a timeline for additional meetings on the subject an update on data
that he has collected up to this point.
The district budget was tabled to the next meeting,
awaiting more information from the state.
Each building principal reported how many children
they had for the kindergarten screening.
Approximately 35 children will be attending in the fall.
