Weir Attendance Center: Discipline Policy

Assertive Discipline Policy (Grades 6-8)

ASSERTIVE DISCIPLINE

(Grades 6-8)

Dear Parents:

In order to give your child and the students in our classrooms the learning climate that they deserve, we will be initiating the following discipline plan.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that all students are capable of behaving appropriately in the classroom.  We will not tolerate a student stopping us from teaching and other students from learning.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR

The students will:

1.      Follow rules of behavior and instructions the first time they are given.

2.      Talk only with permission.

3.      Keep feet, arms, and hands to themselves.

4.      Stay in their seats except with permission to leave.

DISCIPLINE CONSEQUENCES PER DAY

If a student chooses to break a rule:

FIRST – one check – warning

SECOND – two checks – 30 minute after school detention

THIRD – three checks – 60 minute after school detention

FOURTH – four checks – 60 minute after school detention and sent to principal's office

                        - ISS remainder of day –  parents notified

SEVERE CLAUSE – This goes into effect when there is a severe disruption.  Examples: fighting, profane language, severe disobedience/disrespect.  Any of these violations will cause a student to be sent to the principal’s office immediately.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR:  Students may earn rewards for positive behavior.  These will be given on an individual and classroom basis. Examples: movies, parties, mini-golf, afternoon recess, etc.
