Thousands of students throughout the country and in many foreign countries competed April 23rd in the 50th Knowledge Master Open academic competition. Middle school, junior high, and high school students faced their computers and 200 tough questions to vie for top scores based on the accuracy and speed of their answers.
A team of 13 students at USD 247 schools scored 1170 of 2000 possible points. They answered 157 questions correctly and ranked 32 out of 47 Kansas teams and 437 out of 753 total participating teams.
Academic coach Kelli Hendrickson described the event as exciting and educational. The students worked together as a team and performed exceptionally well.
Students on the team included: Hannah Clausen, Jennifer Dey, Austin Egbert, Leslie Fenske, Lori Henderson, Austin Mate, Deidra Rockers, Bryson Spahn, Caleb Spangler, Marina Stricklin, Phillip Underwood, Jarod Watson, and Shelby White.
The Knowledge Master Open was designed to stimulate enthusiasm for learning and recognition for academic accomplishment. The contest runs on classroom computers to allow all students the opportunity to compete in a large academic event without the expense of traveling to a central site.
