WEIR TO IMPLEMENT
ZERO FAILURE POLICY (Grades 4-8)
by Randy Turnbull
DECEMBER 1, 2008
The Staff and administration at Weir Attendance Center believe that assignments & grades are extremely important. They help the teachers to assess whether or not the student understands the concept(s) that has been taught. It then would seem only logical that students be expected to complete daily assignments and maintain passing grades. If the student does this, they have a much better chance of meeting standards on all assessment tests. With this is mind, beginning December 1, 2008, we will be initiating a “ZERO FAILURE” policy. This simply means that receiving a “zero” on a daily assignment and/or not maintaining passing grades in all subject areas is unacceptable. Any student that receives a zero on any assignment and/or is not receiving a passing grade in all subject areas will serve one hour after school detention. If a student is in detention for receiving a zero on an assignment, they will serve the detention the day of the infraction or the next day. If a student is in detention for failing grades(s), they will remain in detention until the grade(s) are brought up to a passing level. Detention will run Monday thru Thursday from 3:15-4:15PM. The school will not provide transportation home after detention. In order for this policy to be successful, the school and home need to work together. We need to support each other, since we both have the same goal; STUDENT SUCCESS!
