Cherokee Celebrates Dr. Suess Day!

Article by Cara Kubler

by Jason Wilderman

The K-3rd grades had a fun-filled afternoon on March 2nd…we celebrated Dr. Seuss Day!!!  The children were divided evenly to rotate between 4 different activities.  The activities included:  Making Oobleck, Watching a skit, Graphing, and Bingo.

Mrs. Denham, Mrs. M. Horgan, and Mrs. Ascanio led the group in making Oobleck.  With a little corn starch, water, and food coloring….. taaadaaaa…green oobleck was made.  Dr. Seuss’ Bartholomew and the Oobleck was read to them as well.  The extremely talented and versatile actresses consisting of Mrs. D. Horgan, Mrs. Charlton, and Mrs. Martinie acted out Dr. Seuss’ book Sam I Am by performing an entertaining skit.  Mrs. Kubler, Mrs. Coltrane, and Mrs. Palmer read Dr. Seuss’ One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and followed up with a graphing of fish activity.  Finally, Mrs. Lacher, Mrs. Waugh, and Miss Jones led the group in several bingo games.  The markers were gold fish which the children could eat as they played.  Mrs. Baldwin helped with all activities.

Mrs. Shaunda Ross made 4 very yummy birthday cakes which were shared by all grades K-8.  One cake was decorated as Dr. Seuss’ Cat in the Hat, another was The Foot Book.

We would like to thank the Cherokee PTO for purchasing the cakes for our K-8 celebration.
