Board Meeting Minutes Sept. 8, 2008
USD # 247 BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING – September 8, 2008
A regular meeting of the USD #247 Board of Education was called to order by President Greg Hite at 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 8, 2008, at the District Office. Other members present were Denise Grasso, Keith Ritchey, Troy Smith and Tara Underwood. Also present were Superintendent Tim Burns, Treasurer Bridget Ritchey and Board Clerk Roberta Sellers.
(1) Denise Grasso moved to approve the agenda as presented.
Keith Ritchey seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
(2) Keith Ritchey moved to approve the minutes of the August 11, 2008 meeting. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
Alan Rogers arrived.
(3) Troy Smith moved to approve the bills in the amount of $234,003.80. Keith Ritchey seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
Mindy Dainty arrived.
Mini Lancers (4) Troy Smith moved to approve the use of the football field by the Mini Lancers
Field use per the guidelines set forth by the district. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Neg. (5) Denise Grasso moved to ratify the changes to the Negotiated Agreement for the Agreement 2008-2009 school year. Tara Underwood seconded. (Appendix A). Motion
carried 7-0.
Out-of-Dist. (6) Alan Rogers moved to approve the additional Out of District students, Gordon
Students Thiessen(248) , Corey Siemer(493), and Shawn Siemer(493). Troy Smith seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(7) Keith Ritchey moved to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues for 15 min. to reconvene at 8:05 pm. Troy Smith seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
President Hite called the meeting back to order.
Walker (8) Per Mr. Burns’ recommendation, Troy Smith moved to hire Debbie Walker
Music as the Music teacher for McCune and Weir Attendance Centers for the 2008-09 school year. Greg Hite seconded. Motion carried 6-1.
McCready (9) Per Mr. Turnbull’s recommendation, Mindy Dainty moved to hire Whitney
Comp. Para McCready as the computer para for Weir Attendance Center for the 2008-09 school year. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
D. Coltrane (10) Per Mr. Burns recommendation, Keith Ritchey moved to hire Donnie Coltrane
Bus Driver as a bus driver for USD 247. Tara Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.

PE, Music (11) Per Mr. Burns’ recommendation, Greg Hite moved to pay Mike Bowman and
Plan period Debbie Walker for their planning periods as needed for the 2008-09 school year.
Tara Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Charlton (12) Per Mr. Squire’s recommendation, Keith Ritchey moved to hire Magarah
Cher Para Charlton as a paraprofessional at Cherokee Attendance Center. Alan Rogers seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Jr. Class (13) Per the administration’s recommendation, Troy Smith moved to hire Starla
Sponsors Parsons as head Jr. Class sponsor, with Kristine Gregory and Kim Boyer as assistants. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Longpine (14) Per administration’s recommendation, Mindy Dainty moved to hire Kim
Scholar Bowl Longpine as the Scholar Bowl coach at Southeast High School for the 2008-09 school year. Greg Hite seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Kimrey (15) Per administration’s recommendation, Denise Grasso moved to hire Korey
X Country Kimrey as Cross Country coach at Southeast High School for the 2008-09 school
year. Keith Ritchey seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Assist. (16) Per administration’s recommendation, Tara Underwood moved to hire Lindsay
VB coaches Smith for 8th grade assistant volleyball coach and Danielle Pflug for the 7th grade assistant volleyball coach for the 2008 season. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Webster (17) Per administration’s recommendation, Alan Rogers moved to hire Nikki
Girls BB Webster as the head girls basketball coach at Southeast High School for the 2008
Coach -09 school year. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 6-1.
Neville (18) Per administration’s recommendation, Troy Smith moved to hire Jeremy
Asst. boys Neville as an assistant boys basketball coach at Southeast High School for the 2008-
BB coach 09 school year. Keith Ritchey seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
Tara Underwood moved to reinstate 8th grade promotion in the evening at each respective school. Motion died due to lack of a second.
(19) Troy Smith moved to revisit the issue of having 8th grade graduations at the October 13, 2008 board meeting. Tara Underwood seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(20) Troy Smith moved to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues for 20 min. to reconvene at 9:25 pm. Keith Ritchey seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
President Hite called the meeting back to order.

(21) Tara Underwood moved to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues for 15 min. to reconvene at 9:40 pm. Mindy Dainty seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(22) Troy Smith moved to go into Executive Session to discuss personnel issues for 5 min. to reconvene at 9:49 pm. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(23) Denise Grasso moved to approve the classified salaries as presented.(See Appendix B). Alan Rogers seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
(24) Troy Smith moved to adjourn at 10:10 p.m. Denise Grasso seconded. Motion carried 7-0.
