Little By Little

Little by little, the Southeast forensics team continues to gain valuable tournament experience with several members making noticeable improvements in their performances. The past week saw the team competing at tournaments in Neodesha and Coffeyville, with a handful of students tasting success.
On Monday, February 22 a small contingent of students traveled to Neodesha for a rare weeknight tournament. Junior Morgan Windsor, competing in Extemporaneous Speaking and Duet Acting, brought home a third place medal in Extemp. Four days later, the team traveled to Coffeyville for a two-day tournament there. On Friday night, sophomore Kyle Stewart earned a sixth place finish in Novice House. Returning on Saturday, the Southeast team saw its biggest competition of the season so far. For the third time this season, Natasha Hunter advanced to finals where she earned a fourth place finish in Informative Speaking. Her speech is on the history of coffee. Junior Lindsay Shoemaker finished in fifth place in Humorous Interpretation with her performance in The Role of Della. Senior Micah McCready placed second and fourth in Original Oration and Poetry, respectively. Micah's second place finish in Original Oration qualified her for the state tournament in May. Her speech is about the loss of civility in America.
Everyone has made improvements, but I hope we can continue to build on what we've learned so far. It's not enough to sit around and expect to get better, we have to work to make that happen. After we get done hosting our tournament on March 5-6, we hit a run of important tournaments that we will have to work really hard to get ready for. I believe if we do, great things will happen.
