Cherokee Jr. High Bound for State Math Competition
Mathletes from Cherokee Attendance center placed 1st in the local MATHCOUNTS competition held on Saturday, February 20th at the Kansas Technology Center, Pittsburg State University. The team members consisted of Caleb Spangler, Brandi Henderson, Timothy Clausen, and Aaron Westervelt. Timothy Clausen also qualified for state by placing 5th overall in the individual competition. The team was coached by jr. high math instructor, Tammie Hall, and gifted facilitator, Kelli Hendrickson. Other students from Cherokee that participated were Codi Hunt, Shado Jacobs, Michael Sharpsteen and Caleb Porter. Ten jr. high schools participated from southeast Kansas with a total of 62 students in the competition. The Cherokee team will advance to Salina for state competition which will be held March 6th in Salina, Kansas.
