I wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that I have taken an administrative position with USD 460 in Hesston, KS and at the conclusion of this school year, I will no longer be principal at Southeast High School. I can honestly say that this was one of the toughest decisions I have had to make in my professional career. The thing that makes it so tough is how fond of Southeast and the USD 247 community I have grown over the course of my seven years here. This is truly a special place for my family and me and we will miss it greatly. I am unbelievably grateful for the opportunities that the Board of Education and district leadership have given me during my time here.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to shed some light on my reasons behind taking this new position. I first became familiar with the Hesston community while I was a Rule 10 assistant boys’ basketball coach there in 2000. It has been a special place for me ever since then. I always said that if given the opportunity to go back there, I would do so in a heartbeat. Now, I have been given that opportunity, but I certainly did not decide in a heartbeat. In fact, I agonized over what to do for days and days. Ultimately, I decided to leave and go to Hesston but I cannot say how happy I have been at Southeast. It is a wonderful placed filled with the very best kids imaginable and with an outstanding staff who I appreciate beyond words.
I believe that Southeast and USD 247 is poised for incredible things in the future. I believe strongly in the mission set forth by Dr. Fortmayer and the Board of Education. There has been a foundation of excellence laid and the personnel exist for continued growth. I would love to be a part of that, but I have also learned that sometimes, tough decisions have to be made. I made that very tough decision, and I will miss Southeast very much. I want to thank everyone for your support that you have given my family and me over the years and I wish this school and district all the best in the future.
